Carrara marble vs Statuary marble

Carrara marble and Statuario marble, both extracted in the Carrara area quarries of Italy. They share the same origin but they are very different unders multiple aspects:

1 Availability

Carrara marble is highly available and represent the 80% of the quarries production. Statuario marble is rarer and less available.

2 Color and veins

Statuario marble shows a very white background color and a few thick veins across the slabs, instead Carrara Marble color is greyish and has intense dots/veins across the slabs surface;

3.Price 

Statuario Marble is at least 12 times more expensive than Carrara marble due to its unique characteristics and limited availability

Difference between Statuario and Calacatta marble

Statuario marble and Calacatta marble are both types of marble which are from Italy, but they are extracted from different quarries or part of the quarry. Both when cut into slab and polished show a very natural pure white background color, the main difference comes from the veins which for Calacatta marble are thin, intense and light grey & gold colored, instead for Statuario marble veins are of a darker tone and thicker. Most of the times statuario shows one or two/three big thick veins crossing the slabs (those are called ‘’bastoni’’ by Italian marble masters)

It has many varieties like: Bianco Statuario, Statuario Venato, Statuarietto, Statuario Venatino. With Bianco Statuario being the withest, less veined and more expensive one.
